With the snow finally melting in New York City, we are thrilled to participate in something as exciting as the 2014 NYC Half Marathon on March 16th. We have six enthusiastic runners this year, each raising a minimum of $1,000 that will go directly to helping children in need of crutches. They have persevered through an extremely cold training season and raised close to $10,000 (and counting). Thanks to them and their supporters, over 1,000 children in impoverished communities across the globe will receive a pair of crutches. This gift will give them the opportunity to go to school, gain access to food and water, and play with their friends.

Our rock-star team this year includes Jennifer and Tom Haskins, Rebecca Culley, Antonia Lewis-Iley, Chelsea Palmer, and Stephanie Lau. Check out what three of them shared with us in anticipation of the half-marathon next week.

Rebecca Culley in NYC - "I can't think of a better way to raise money for an organization that is helping disabled children gain mobility than by improving and celebrating my own mobility by running a half marathon....C4K is a great example of an organization that has focused on a very simple objective to achieve a much greater goal. By providing children in need with a pair of crutches, C4K is empowering disabled children everywhere to continue to participate independently in their lives. And by trying to also use recycled crutches C4K is enabling donors to save some trees while helping others out with something that they would have thrown away. An elegant solution to a real problem with a humanitarian and environmental impact!"

Antonia Lewis-Iley in Hong Kong - "I can't quite believe I am flying from Hong Kong to run the New York half, but I suppose that is what friends are for....to get you to do crazy things you would otherwise never think to do.  My training has included "beating the banana" in the 1km family fun run in Hong Kong this week, definitely a highlight, as our two girls ran their hearts out, and were so proud of their achievement...I have been humbled by the number of friends who have donated to our fund-raising page, in no small part to them seeing for themselves what an incredible charity Crutches4kids is wanting to help this awesome charity."

Chelsea Palmer in NYC - “I'm running for C4K to make a tangible and dramatic difference in the lives of 100 children who lack mobility.  C4K rocks!!!!!!”

We plan to make this an annual fundraising event for the organization. It’s a great way to spread the word about our mission and raise funds for kids in need!

If you’re in NYC on March 16th, get out and cheer on our team! And check back here in a couple weeks for photos and highlights from the run.
